Your Zone Friday: It was the best of times...
…it was the worst of times. It's been a busy news week: football scandal, the Queen’s official Jubilee and…lots of snow! However you feel about the above, Charles Dickens’ 200th anniversary was a definite cause for celebration, so we swept through the office and delved into the cultured minds of the team. Result? The Zoners favourite Dickens novel of all time is Great Expectations, with a whopping 40 percent of the votes. Oliver Twist came in a not-very-close second, with 20 percent. And no, you can’t have any more.
Question of the day: Which Zoner played the part of a ‘busty wench’ in Oliver Twist?
Three things we've done

Launched a magazine
The redesigned and relaunched BT Update Magazine landed on the nation’s chilly doorsteps at the start of February. Big round of applause to the BT team for making it happen.

Found the perfect treat
The Channel 4 Food team has once again been busy educating us on how best to impress in the kitchen. With Valentine’s Day edging ever closer (you have four days to get it together!), their handy video, by top chef Paul A Young, is a step-by-step guide to making delicious chocolate truffles.

Filmed for the future
#2 – Get your foot in the door. Discover nine more reasons why apprenticeships rock by taking a look at this film that we shot for City & Guilds. The video, filmed by our talented Public Zone production team, shows why and how apprenticeships can help young people kickstart their dream career.
Zone hero of the week
For proof of the pudding, we turn to our very own UX apprentice, the lovely Sarah Welton, who has done a brilliant job, amazing both clients and colleagues across the board. Delivering her projects with precision and ahead of deadline, she is the Speedy Gonzales of the team. We’ll stop gushing now so we can ask her about the important stuff…
Tea or coffee? Tea, please.

Zonecontent.com stat of the week
We’ve already learnt which profiles have the most views and how people get to the site, but where do visitors to zonecontent.com come from exactly? Here are the top five countries and cities/states that make up our traffic figures.
1. UK – London
2. Germany – Nordrhein-Westfalen
3. US – New York
4. India – Maharashtra
5. Australia – New South Wales

‘I made this’
Zone staff share their creative moments
Here at Zone, we like to flex our creative muscles as much as humanly possible. Our head of design, Rich Dean, poured his heart and soul into creating this leaving card for James Simpson. We’re sure James has this framed picture of RelentlessEnergy.com editor Ben Gomori in pride of place on his mantelpiece (or bedside table).

NEWSFLASH!
We’re all getting excited for the London leg of Social Media Week, which starts on Monday – don’t forget to follow our special hashtag #SMWZone to keep up with all the news and tweets from the event. Also, in preparation, we suggest you watch this video: it’s 2062 and a bunch of elderly hipsters are interviewed about the good old days of social media.

Three things we like

Morphing
Everyone has issues with Transport for London, but watching Harry Beck’s original map morph into geographical reality makes that jam-packed and uncomfortable Tube commute worth it… well, almost.

The Universe
Ever find yourself wondering what’s out there? Travel through space and time from the comfort of your own swivel chair with this incredible app, designed by Cary Huang.

Fenton
FENTON! FENTONNNN! When he went viral earlier this year, the runaway dog and his owner were watched by over five million people in a couple of months. The duo’s astounding popularity has been confirmed with this mocked-up movie poster from artist Stefan Van Zoggel. Check out his interpretations of other memes here.
P.S. It's Channel 4 Food senior writer Lauren Bravo who played the busty wench.
