Things we’ve done and things we like this week

This week we’ve left Valentine’s Day behind in a cloud of petrol station rose petals and peddled off towards the next love-filled event on the calendar – and this time, even single people can join in! But before we grease up the frying pan and get flipping, we’ve had a jolly sociable week to get through…

Three things we've done

Social Media Week

Been social IRL

Social Media Week London kicked off on Monday, and more than 30 Zoners grabbed their iPhones and headed out to around 50 talks and events. We came, we saw, we tweeted. One attendee was account manager Martha Paren, who jumped into the gender gap at Men Are From Foursquare, Women Are From Facebook, and blogged about her findings.

Took on the takeaway

Giving up your takeaway habit for Lent? No problem – our Channel 4 Food team have been busy filming with top Chinese chef Ching-He Huang, who taught us how to use leftovers to make perfect special fried rice at home.

Real Madrid on Life's A Pitch

Looked into the crystal ball

Real Madrid are going to win the Champions League! How do we know? Because BT Life’s A Pitch says so, of course. Read Ethan Dean-Richards’ opinion column for the lowdown on the Spanish side’s chances of lifting the cup.

What will our virtuous Zoners be giving up for Lent?

Zone hero of the week

Employees come to Zone from a wide range of different backgrounds, but our new Drupal team leader Rob Brown might be the first qualified masseur to find their way on to the payroll. Watch this space for HR's new at-desk shoulder rubs initiative…

A veritable fountain of strange-but-true facts, Rob has also congaed with Edwina Currie, hugged Floella Benjamin and sung karaoke with the lead singer of Build Me Up Buttercup crooners The Foundations. Now that’s just showing off.

Tea or coffee?

“Espresso, with a glass of ice cold water, looking out over the Adriatic.” But Eversholt Street will do, right Rob?

Zonecontent.com stat of the week

We’d never want to encourage technological discrimination – after all, PCs, Macs, tablets and smartphones all live happily in harmony in the Zone office – but for fun we had a look at the top five operating systems people use to access the Zone site…

1. Windows - 51.83%

2. Macintosh - 38.41%

3. iPhone - 4.77%

4. iPad - 1.66%

5. Linux - 1.64%

Zone staff share their creative moments

Our Channel 4 Food team have a taxing life, which in recent weeks has involved being swamped by shedloads of Valentine’s chocolates. Thankfully, deputy editor Celia Plender rustled up these nutritious peanut butter booster bars to keep everyone’s energy up as they bravely soldiered on to finish the hoard. What a hero!

NEWSFLASH!

Ready for your close-up? Picture editor Jade Severs snapped her way through a new batch of staff photos this week, with an array of jazzy props including masks, wigs and a Mr Potato Head.

Jade’s used to shooting slightly more glamorous subjects than our motley crew – check out her beautiful wedding photography here.

Graffiting trains is wrong, kids – unless it’s done in stop motion and you’re made entirely out of Lego.

What I do

What People Think I Do/What I Actually Do charts have been sweeping social media faster than Richmond Park deer. But, so far, no one’s tackled the mystery-shrouded world of life at a digital content agency – let’s keep up the illusion, folks.
