Lighting the torch on Channel4.com/Paralympics

By Jon Davie

Our latest digital commission from Channel 4 - a major website to support the broadcaster's coverage of the London 2012 Paralympic Games - went live last night.

The site will run from today right through to 2012, helping to build awareness and excitement around Britain's Paralympians and the 20 sports that make up the Paralympic programme.

The project is a collaboration between Zone and our colleagues at Public Zone, who specialise in working with clients in the government, charity and non-for-profit sectors.

I can't think of a project which better combines the skills and passions of the two agencies.

We have nearly 20 years' experience in producing sports content, and worked with Channel 4 on their pioneering coverage of Test Match cricket between 1999 and 2005. And Public Zone was founded specifically to work on projects which change society for the better.

Raising the profile of disability sport and giving these elite athletes the kind of serious, professional coverage their sports deserve, is an amazing opportunity. And the fact that the 2012 Games are taking place in London, the city where we all live and work, is even more exciting.

We're lucky enough to work on a whole range of challenging, innovative and creative projects for some really massive brands. But the Paralympics project galvanised the whole team, from design and IA through to tech and editorial, and we're really proud of the result.

We've got loads of exciting content planned for the coming months, and are looking forward to working with the team at Channel 4, ParalympicsGB and LOCOG to deliver a site which will engage, challenge, inform, entertain and provoke.

And as you'd expect, coverage isn't just limited to the website - you can follow @c4paralympics on Twitter, join us on Facebook, view pics on Flickr and catch-up on all Channel 4's on-air coverage at 40D.
