Your Zone Friday: A Great Indian Summer
Things we’ve done and things we like this week
Wow, what a summer! Tepid temperatures, riots and a third Transformers movie made it seem less than glorious. But those fickle weather lords decided to give us a lovely Indian summer instead, so this week Zone’s serving up some unseasonably hot examples of digital content.
Three things we've done

Turned pink
To mark Breast Cancer Awareness month, our Channel 4 Food team is showcasing all their favourite pink recipes on the site. So why not see how pink you can turn your kitchen? Bring on the fairy cakes.

Broke a sweat
Rob Hobson and James Simpson, our Powerade boyz, were left bejeweled with sweat when they met former Olympic sprinter Darren Campbell and London 2012 hopeful Jodie Williams. They were all limbering up on the South Bank for the Powerade 100m Finals giveaway.

Visited Wayne’s World
Wayne Hemingway, design guru and experienced thrifter, gave us his top tips on greener living for our Coca-Cola website. Wearing a jumper is one of them. We’ll bear that in mind next summer, Wayne.
Beardstrokable infogram
This week’s data makeoverTime to enjoy a delicately spiced breakdown of the Zone staff's curry-eating habits. Here's some pukka recipes if the hotline to your local curry house is broken.

Zone hero of the week
Josh Burt has been manfully (he has a beard) manning our Life’s A Pitch website while editor Dan is away. His footie knowledge, writing skills and all-round chutzpah has kept the site kickety boo. Check out this recent article about Mucky Eggball vs The Beautiful Game.
Tea or coffee? Decaff tea. (The Kaliber of the hot beverage family.)

Geek of the Week speaks
Our tech team are on a mission to shed their nerdy reputation. We chart their progress…
Tech team poster boy Tim Reed got all Point Break in Portugal. In another brazen attempt to lose the taint of geek, he went surfing. He actually managed to stand up on the board and shout: “I AM A FRONT END DEVELOPER”. Bodacious, Tim. Truly Bodacious.

‘I made this’
Zone staff share their creative moments
Time to celebrate the snappy skills of picture editor Jade Severs. She works the wedding frontline – check out her pictures at Jade Lisa Photography. This is in no way a shameful plug.

NEWSFLASH!
The Pepperhood Presidential Election is hotting up. In our Dr Pepper game, the 10 candidates are battling for the right to rule the roost. So vote for your favourite now. Sadly, Sarah Palin didn’t get her paperwork to us in time. Aww, shucks.

Three things we like

The app
The Project Neon
This app is a beautiful collection of all the neon signs in NYC, showing you where to find them on a hot Noo Yawk night when darkness falls.

The Game
Sweatshop
Ever wanted to run your own shady little factory? Now you can in 4 Education’s Sweatshop. With its cute graphics and addictive gameplay, the game reveals some painful truths behind the shadow economy in a simple way.

The Blog
Leisure
From Gazza working his magic at Lazio to a heartfelt reminiscence about Spectrum games and dog wee, Leisure is a barrage of random uselessness. The way all great blogs should be.
