Your Zone Friday: Guilty pleasures

Things we’ve done and things we like this week

What connects being nominated for loads of awards with watching TV gems like The Only Way Is Essex? Pleasure, that's what. This week Zone dives into a round-up of it, guilty or otherwise...

Three things we've done

BIMAs 2011

Been very popular

A pleasure with no guilt – we've racked up a whopping six award nominations. In no particular order (*drum roll*) ...both Channel 4Food and Relentless are up for a BIMA in the Engagement, Blogging and Content category.

While over at the APAs, BT's Life's a Pitch, Relentless and Channel 4Food are all up for the Best Consumer Solution and Amanda Nicolas, 4Food's Super Editor (not her official title) is up for the prestigious Editor of the Year. Hurrah!

Channel 4 Paralympics Murderball

Gone retro

Our Channel 4 Paralympics team have created the dangerously addictive Murderball game (aka wheelchair rugby). Pick a team, select players and then pit your keyboard-tapping skills against some of the best teams in the world. Play with the volume ON for added value - rock music and entertainingly disturbing sound effects.

ASOS and Diet Coke

Become more stylish

The Diet Coke team have joined forces with fashion powerhouse ASOS in a bid to style up the nation. They've created a fab competition microsite where you can create an A/W-inspired moodboard and win goodies.

This week’s data makeover The self-styled entertainment addicts of Zone, the BT Vision team, made encouraged their fellow Zoners to admit to their TV and music guilty pleasures and sat in judgement of whether their pleasures could be condoned. Now, in The X Factor/Strictly/Big Brother-style: The Results Are In!

Zone hero of the week

When he's not busy launching new online games, Channel 4 Paralympics editor Chris Gibbons is running marathons (he's sports-mad!). He completed his latest in 3hrs 50mins 58secs. Is that good? Who knows, we don't do running.

Geek of the Week speaks

Our tech team are on a mission to shed their nerdy reputation. We chart their progress…

GOTW regular Ollie Philpott is back and he's again producing music mixes as well as style sheets. He tries to hide his inherent musicality but his fellow tech team members have frequently spotted him nodding his head along to The X Factor's 2 Shoes YouTube delights (before they were booted off the show - he's gone off them now). Check out his tunes.

‘I made this’

Zone staff share their creative moments

This week:Relentless editor Ben Gomori has also been mixing like there's no tomorrow. A Radiohead re-edit that's had nearly 4k plays on SoundCloud, no less. Make that more than 'nearly' 4k by clicking and having a listen. (NB Ben assures YZF that the accompanying pic is from a Tache-House event ["house music and moustaches" - young people these days, eh?] not a Village People-themed evening.)

NEWSFLASH!

We're not the only ones dusting down the awards cabinet this week. Our friends at Public Zone have also bagged themselves a couple of glorious nominations in both the BIMAs and the APAs for their outstanding work on MyFarm.
