Your Zone Friday: Back to School

By Nancy Whiting

It's that time of year again! Inhale deeply and you might just catch the whiff of new plimsolls, paint and boiled cabbage in the air – September is here, and it's time to go back to school. Zone is knotting its tie and bringing a shiny apple for teacher, as this week us old-skoolers pay homage to the good old days…

Three things we've done

James at Leeds Festival for Relentless Energy Drink

Had a school disco
This week the Relentless boys Ben, Mikee and James partied at Reading and Leeds festivals, where Relentless Energy Drink hosted two areas. Top marks to all for tweeting hundreds of updates despite a lack of network, while the gold star goes to James, who managed a full-blown stage dive. How's that for account management?

Dr Pepper The Pepperhood

Been on a school trip
The Pepperhood - the digital college society Zone created for Dr Pepper - has now handed out a whopping 100,000 badges, getting loads of kids off the streets and onto their computers. We also played prankster for a day, daring 16-year-old boys to run around Thorpe Park saying "I love you" to strangers, in return for free stuff and lots of Facebook likes.

Vista Jet

Had an after-school special
This week sees the launch of VistaJet.com, the online home of the super-smart private aviation company. Do you need 24-hour availability, a queen-sized bed and complete privacy when you fly? If your answer isn't "I wish", Zone has designed a swish aspirational new site that will change your mind.

Beardstrokable infogram

This week we asked the Zone staffers to stop writing, put down their pens and reveal their GCSE results (or O-levels for the more mature among us). If Zone were a pupil, its results would be...

Zone hero of the week

Feeling as proud as when she handed in her class 4O project on the Romans (can you spot her?), writer, eater and teacher's pet Lauren Bravo has been bumped up the ranks to senior writer on Channel 4Food. The team will be letting their hair down with a celebratory lunch of peanut butter sandwiches, Cheese Strings and Capri-Sun.

Geek of the Week speaks

This week front-end developer Tim Reed strived to prove that techies on tour can be just as wild as the rest of us, by going one better than The Inbetweeners and raving it up in Ibiza. "Ibiza's too much!" said Tim. "A nectarine cost €1.90."

‘I made this’

This week we reflect on our school days (and expose the shocking haircuts of others') with this lovely show-and-tell collage, now hanging proudly on the Zone fridge. Guess which fresh little face belongs to which Zoner?
