Your Zone Friday: It's scrummy
Things we’ve done and things we like this week.
Finely tuned professionals performing at the peak of their chosen field. The Rugby World Cup in New Zealand and Zone are like twins separated at birth. So enjoy a celebration of our doppelganger down under.
Three things we've done

Only gone and saved the planet
Modern rugby is about recycling the ball quickly. And, while we’re on the subject, Zone’s designed and built a Recyclometer for the Coca-Cola website, showing just how much good you can do by, er, recycling. It’s a real word, just ask Coca-Cola editor Laura Starkey or senior writer Victoria Noble.

Passed on knowledge
Rugby’s like football’s quirkily cute sister who stays in her room reading Nietzsche. So, for those who want to plumb its deep mysteries but don’t know their haka from their front row, our BT Vision team produced a handy guide to the Rugby World Cup, which can be used to amuse and impress your friends.

Made a funky chicken
While we’d love to see Jonny Wilkinson roast the All Black defence, our 4Food team set themselves a (slightly) more attainable task by teaming up with ‘How to Cook in High Heels’ to shoot this amazing video on the best way to perfectly roast a chicken. All Black defence or chicken? You choose.

This week’s data makeover
Fuelled by steaming cups of tea, we pondered on how to build the ultimate rugby player by recycling body parts from Zone’s sporting high achievers. One day it might live, and here’s what it’d look like…

Zone hero of the week
Using cutting-edge DNA science and a Bunsen burner you could recreate Hannah Robinson from the blood, sweat and tears the account manager has shed training for the gruelling Run to the Beat charity event. So show her the money!
Tea or coffee? Black tea, one sugar, with a Relentless chaser please.

Geek of the Week speaks
Our tech team are on a mission to shed their nerdy reputation. We chart their progress…
Some people think one of the tech team managing to score a gold dust-like working visa to the US is a sign of the Apocalypse. But according to senior developer Dom Da Costa, Tim Hilliard’s achievement is proof the techies can smooth-talk their way in anywhere. ‘You mention parallax scrolling and repository pattern with inversion of control, and drop in a progressive enhancement, and doors open, my friend,’ he said.

‘I made this’
Zone staff share their creative moments
This week: After starting out on pipe racks and pencil cases, the C4 Paralympic team became so good at making things that they built this amazing Generator to help folks’ Paralympic ticket dreams come true.

NEWSFLASH!
Not content with having electro beat master Drums of Death headline the Relentless Energy Drink’s party with Mixmag, Relentless have now been nominated for Greatest Brand Impact in the Live UK Music Business Awards.

Three things we like

The tackles
In rugby, if it doesn’t hurt you’re not doing it properly, as this eye-watering collection of hits with attitude from the last World Cup proves. It's probably being used as a training video by the Springboks.

Rugby’s deep thinkers
Some rugby players are bidding for the banter world cup, and you can catch quick-fire quips from the likes of England’s Mike Tindall (who may have some explaining to do), Ireland’s Andrew Trimble, and young Wallaby James O’Connor. It's like Shakespeare with an egg-shaped ball.

The tries
Rugby without tries would just be a bunch of blokes in man-made fibres running around a field. And who hasn't seen enough of that? Check out some tries so beautiful you want to take them for a candle-lit meal.
